I have been into photography for most of my life. Growing up, my father was rarely without a camera in his hand. I was given my first camera for a birthday present at the age of 12. I was hooked. I bought my first "real" camera, a Minolta XG9 in High School and I have been taking photographs ever since. I have had several cameras over the years and now I am rarely without one. I try to shoot now most everyday.

Photography to me is all about capturing a moment and telling a story. It's those little frozen moments in time when you get that special look from someone or the light is just so perfect in that morning sunrise; all captured. So, poke around a little bit and enjoy a few captured moments through my eyes and enjoy the story they tell. ..........Kris :D

06.07.09 = Get ready for some butterflys this week! Yesterday we went to the Butterfly Show at Krohn Conservatory here in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's an annual show here and a must see. You enter an enclosed area and all the butterflys just fly around you. They have all their favorite plants for them and they just land at will. Quite the photo opp, but you all know what it's like photographing a butterfly! I thought this one was a great way to start the week!

Sorry, I'm a few days behind on everyone's posts. Can't wait to see what everyone's been up to the past few days.

07.05.09 = I'm not a big fan of clowns; they kind of freak me out. This guy was part of the parade on Saturday and when he saw me with my camera he posed so nicely,,,, he was so cute. I probably will reget posting this one, because it will freak me out a little each time I see it. It's Monday, hope everyone has a great week.

08.01.09 = "Mom! Kris is doing it again!!!"
Yes, I used to pester my sisters growing up. I was the one, "I'm not touching you..." But growing up, my mother "made us" get along. If we got in a fight, she would make us sit on the step until we worked it out. We were never allowed to stay mad at each other. Today, we are each other's best friends. I talk to at least one or two of my sisters every day. I love you Kelly, Kim and you too Kasey!

10.20.09 = Ahhhhhhhh, Coffee! I've been drinking coffee since I was little. Our Grandmother, Mimi use to fix us coffee when we went to visit her at the country house. She put so much cream and sugar in it that it tasted like sweet milk. It didn't matter, we thought we were so cool drinking coffee like the adults. There was coffee on the stove all day too. Now, I'm not one of those fancy coffee drinkers, no *$'s for this girl, I prefer Dunkin, or I PERK it myself. Yes, that's right, PERK. No drip coffee in this house. If you're passionate about your coffee, pick up a perkulator. You will enjoy the difference.
So what's your brew? Are you a fancy coffee drinker or a hard core french press type??

05.28.09 = I promise, this is my last dandelion post! I just had to post the different stages. Now, before you start pulling these fuzz balls and yellow dots out of your gardens and yards, did you know that dandelions have antioxidant properties and there are a host of things you can make from dandelions, such as WINE, jelly, facial srubs....

Well, after all my ranting this week about weeds and how we don't appreciate them, I have to admit, they are still an eye sore in my garden and yard and I must confess, I just bought a big bottle of Round-Up.

08.19.09 = IT'S IRRESISTIBLE!!! It says so right on the carton; Graeter's Ice Cream! This is a local, family operated ice cream company that has been around since 1870. It's a 4th generation run business! The Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk is a famous favorite. Oprah put it on her "Favorite Things" list a few years ago, and there was a 4 month waiting list to get it. Sarah Jessica Parker, is from Cincinnati, and when ever she finishes with a movie shoot, she has Graeter's brought in for the entire crew. You can order it online at http://www.graeters.com/

07.15.09 = Okay, call me crazy, but as I have gotten older, I really like getting up early in the morning. It seems to be that time of the day that is quite and has a pure peacfulness about it. No blackberry buzzing yet, no phone ringing, no "dong" of email. Morning reminds me of the innocence of childhood. Hey, I think I'll use that as my quote today.

06.28.09 = Gracie and her Chicken. This little girl is in love with this rubber chicken. By the way, it squeeks! I have to make sure she hasn't carried it upstairs to bed. Nothing like waking up at 2:30am to a squeeking chicken! I had to post this one today, Monday, to get me going. Hope it brings a smile to your face as well.

Thanks for all the comments on my Lexington shot yesterday. Yes, those are stables for horses. Crazy uh?

09.16.09 = Best Friend! The saying goes that "Dog is a Man's best friend." I don't doubt that but I also think that "Dog is a Woman's best friend" as well. Dogs are so uninhibited. They live in moment, in the now. There's nothing better than coming home to that big wagging tail. She wags and dances about like a child on Christmas morning. How wonderful to be loved by a dog. How lucky I am.

06.08.09 = I chased these blue morpho butterflys all around trying to get a photo of that amazing blue. When they would land, the outside of their wings, is just brown. They looked more like a pretty moth. Finally, one landed and opened it's wings as if to say, "I'm ready for my close-up!"

10.14.09 = Dancing shadows. I loved how the shadows of the leaves danced on the side of this bright red barn. Bright blue skies, red barns, green grass and white fences.....perfect comp for photo don't you think? Sorry I've missed posting for a few days but I've been out of town and running like a mad woman. Is it Friday yet?

07.14.09 = Sorry you're getting another Sunflower shot today. I had planned on a new series that I shot, however, I don't like any of them so they will be trashed. Don't you hate when you think you have something really good only to find when you load it, nothing looks good? So, we are back to the tried and true; Sunflowers. This shot was also taken at sunrise. This is SOOC nothing has been done it.

09.24.09 = Hello my Daily friends! Sorry I haven't had time to post this week. It's going to be a few more crazy weeks for me coming up. I am headed into a very busy season at work so my posting will be sporadic. This shot of Lucy is about how I feel at the end of the week. I've been running all week and need to re-group to start all over next week.

07.10.09 = Like I said the other day, I have hundreds of phototgraphs of sunflowers. I just loved the color and detail of this one. This was another one that I took at sunrise.

08.09.09 = I had fun at this car show. All the old cars had so much style. It just seems we don't have a lot of cars these days with such style. In 50 years will we be walking car shows looking at a 4-door green Camry? In our quest to make cars more fuel effecient, more affordable and more areodynamic, it seems we lost our sense of style.

06.29.09 = Now I really understand that saying "Busy as a Bee." Let me tell ya', these little guys are tough to photograph. He didn't stop moving, I just got lucky to get one in focus. I guess if you take enough, you are bound to get one. Love that new macro lens!

I am sorry to report that I read some really nasty comments made by some "Guests" about some peoples work here. Seems there has been a lot of that going around. Just a thought from Mark Twain:

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions, small people do that, but the really great make you feel, that you too, can become great."

We have some really great photographers out there and I have been inspired by each and every one of you. Thank you for your inspiration and dedication to the dailies. You are all really great! Kris:D

06.27.09 = Not a bad place to call home huh? This is one of the many stables, yes, I said stables in Lexington, Kentucky. They take their Horses seriously down there and treat them like royalty. Well, let’s face it, most of those horses will make more in their short career’s than I ever will.

07.31.09 = What's a fair without "fair food"? Popcorn, candied apples and cotton candy; three good old fashioned treats.

07.01.09 = Two Gracie shots in one week...sorry, but I just had to post this one. I was out shooting these great butterflys on my cone flowers, and Miss Gracie had to see what all the fuss was about.

06.26.09 = Yipee, my comptuter has been fixed! It took my tech wizard over 3 hours to fix it and get everything back to normal. Ha, and Microsoft thought they could walk me through it on the phone....

10.21.09 = A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a small bag of chips and a Little Debbie snack cake; what a perfect lunch when you’re a kid. My wonderful mother use to make our lunch every day when we were in school. She would write our names on the outside of the bag and line them up in order on the kitchen counter. The days when the bag was heavy, we knew we got an apple instead of a Little Debbie. We had lunch boxes when we were younger and my favorite was a Snoopy lunch box. Whether you carried your lunch in a box or a bag, it was homemade with love. I remember she would sometimes draw a happy face and say, “I love you” on the napkin. Even after all these years I remember and appreciate all you did. Thanks Mom, I love you! :D

07.20.09 = On Sunday, my sister and I went to a large outdoor antique show that comes to the area once a month. We always make a day of it and have a good time. I just loved this big bucket of clothespins. These are the really good older kind. Not the flimsy wood kind they make in China these days, that break. They just triggered memories as a kid, running and playing between the sheets hanging out on the line. Ahhhh, there's nothing like sleeping on fresh sheets hung on a line. Ahhhhh.

06.02.09 = One job I would NOT like to have! I usually try to keep my posts a little more artistic but I had to share this one with you. These guys were very, very high up and hanging over the edge of the road. CRAZY! I spotted them and doubled back, got out of my car and I could hear the one guy in the blue on the left say, "No, shes got a camera...: I missed the shot of them waving at me.
It's hump day, have a good one!

10.25.09 = This old clock radio reminded me of a similar one we had on top of the refrigerator when I was growing up. I can almost hear it now, “…Switzerland County schools, closed…Talawanda City schools, closed…” No mention of Sycamore schools, but it’s still snowing. Nothing gets a kid out of bed faster in morning than mentioning that four letter word, “SNOW”. I remember sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast, listening and waiting for the school closings on 700 WLW. “…Loveland, closed, Madeira, closed, Mariemont, closed….” Surely if Mariemont was closed we would be as well, however we had to wait through all the “Saints” before any mention of Sycamore. “…Sycamore, closed…” YES! Those were the days!

This concludes my “nostalgia” series. Thanks to all my fellow Smuggers; it’s been fun reading all your comments about coffee, lunch boxes and poor Raggedy Ann this week. Smuggers really are the best!

Sorry I have been MIA for the week. I have been sick all week. Some bug really got me and I have been down for the count, sleeping for days. I'm feeling much better today finally!

08.18.09 = Following my theme this week of favorite local foods; THE HOT FUDGE CAKE from Frisch's Big Boy! Two pieces of chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream in between; thick hot fudge rolling down the sides; topped with whipped cream and cherry.....good heavens! JenniferD was wondering if they still had the hot fudge cake the other day with my shot of the Big Boy, now you have your answer, Ohhhhh yeeeaaahhhhhhhh!

09.17.09 = Sorry Digby, but you have to wear the cone. I don't think he really minds it all that much that's just his pity look. It's that time of year for allergies and this poor little guy just can't stop licking and biting his feet, so he has to wear the cone. The Digger is my sister Kasey's dog. He is a little over 10 now and such a sweetie. We call him a "Blarney Terrier" We think he is mix between a Wheaten Terrier and a Golden Retriever. He is a gentle soul.

08.17.09 = SKYLINE CHILI!!! To follow yesterdays post, my topic this week is local food. Even if you have never been to Cincinnati, you may have heard of "Cincinnati Style Chili". We like our chili a little bit different here; over speghetti. A 3-way is spaghetti topped with chili and cheese; 4-ways, the same with your choice of beans or onions added and a 5-way, both beans and onions added. The chili is not a tomato base or a Texas style chili it has a touch of cinnamon and some say, chocolate in it. The secret family recipe is kept in a safe! My favorite are the cheese coneys; little hot dogs with chili, mustard, onions topped with a mountain of cheese. Oh, and dont forget the oyster crackers on the side! Skyline chili, a hometown favorite!

07.04.09 = Happy July 4th everyone. Although, I'm a day late because I post from the previous day. I went to the local 4th of July parade yesterday. You just got to love the local parades, with the kids on their bikes and the veterans in classic cars.... This was one of my favorite shots. The color version is nice but there was something about the B&W that made you think about it more and it really became timeless.
Hope you all had a great 4th!

09.05.09 = Welcome to the world, Ian Mitchell Straub! A very good friend of mine just had a baby and I was able to do the first photo shoot for the announcements! This was my favorite from the shoot. Too cute the little smirk on his face. Looks like he is already up to something.

Sorry for my sporadic posting and commenting. I have been very busy with mulitpal projects at home, work and of course, photography.

06.04.09 = I have been challenging myself to work with Photoshop to learn the program a little better. I don't do much pp to my photo's, maybe a crop here or there or a quick color tweek. Many of you use frames and effects and I keep thinking I need to give it a try and see what I come up with.

Yesterday's post was a shot using framing, today I used layers and I completely changed the color saturation. I was going for that "shabby chic" look here.
